FOREMAN / CREW LEADER

Job Description

Includes: Irrigation Foreman, Master Foreman, Nursery Foreman

PHC Foreman, Power Saw Operator Spray Foreman, Vegetation Foreman and Working Foreman

Summary: Directs crew members and equipment and plans and executes assigned work or tasks by performing the following duties.

 

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities: Includes some or all of the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Organize from start to completion operations within the most efficient possible manner and to the satisfaction of the client
  • Delegate work and accept responsibility for completion of tasks timely and correctly
  • Supervise and participate in the work of unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled workers in the trimming and cutting of trees, grounds maintenance, landscaping consulting, plant health care and other arboricultural tasks
  • Supervise and participate in the operation of bucket trucks, dump trucks, chippers, chain saws and hydraulic pruners
  • Encourage crew members to work efficiently following the work practices identified in the “Davey Efficiencies SOP”
  • Meet or exceed the budgeted hours according to how the job is sold
  • Communicate job specs and performance with the crew through job briefing and debriefing
  • Follow “Davey CGM Best Practices” to perform quality work
  • Responsible for the safety of the crew, including proper use of all equipment, use of all PPE and to identify all risks before the commencement of work
  • Work with the public in obtaining permission to perform assigned tasks
  • Develop and motivate crew members to achieve desired productivity and job performance
  • Drive, operate and maintain assigned equipment in an efficient, safe and economical manner (truck, chipper, crane, aerial lift, sprayer, hand saw, chain saw, sledge hammer, dump truck, shovel, rake, ropes, pulleys and related equipment)
  • Understand and implement preventative maintenance on equipment
  • Inspect trucks and trailers for DOT compliance
  • Report any equipment problems to Production Manager
  • Report any irregularities at the job site to the Account Manager
  • Coach and train crew members in horticultural practices, proper equipment operation and efficiency
  • Maintain equipment in proper condition to ensure peak performance, mitigate risk and damage
  • Properly complete time reports and other required paperwork
  • Recognize all major trees, shrubs and poisonous plants in the geographical area
  • Apply pesticides, herbicides and other materials in accordance with label instructions
  • Assist other crews with all aspects of job tasks
  • Perform as needed all job duties of crew members
  • Train employees
  • Conduct safety meetings, job briefings, tailgates and other required meetings
  • Understand and follow all safety rules and regulations and teach these rules and regulations to other employees
  • Understand and perform first aid, CPR and aerial rescue procedures
  • Communicate by reading relevant manuals and materials, speaking clearly, distinctively and listening to instructions

 

Education and Qualifications: An individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license required, Commercial driver’s license may be required
  • First aid, CPR and defensive driving course
  • Davey extension courses are recommended
